Please Help - No Heater and It Is Getting Cold!
 

The first day it started getting chilly outside, I went to turn on the heater of my '02 Camaro and nothing but cold air came out.

The car is running at normal operating temperatures. I've ensured that there is adequate antifreeze. I've checked both radiator hoses after driving the car for a while, and both of them were hot to the touch. I pulled out the actual controls of the ac/heater and used a vacuum tester to check if any of the vacuum lines behind the knob were leaking and they weren't.

I'm beginning to run out of ideas, so I decided to turn here in hopes that maybe somebody could point me in the right direction before I become and icicle!

How does the coolant look? If it is dirty, you may have to take the heater hoses off up next to the firewall and back flush the heater core with a garden hose. Can you hear the door moving inside the heater box when you turn the heater controller? Make sure the vac line under the hood that operates the heater valve is not leaking.

this if from a 93 book. im not sure if the late 4th gen is the same as the early but heres a short deal to go with. the section is to long to go into.

If the 02 is like a 94, the temp control flap is *cable* operated. All the mode doors, the ones that determine *where* air is discharged, are vacuum operated.
When you twist the temp knob on the dash you are moving a sheathed cable that runs down to a little gearbox on the underside of the a/c-heater assembly. One screw holds the gearbox there. To get at everthing you'll have to drop the hush panel above the passenger's feet. No big deal.

If you or a previous owner have used any stop leak -- that is like your problem -- plugged heater core -- you need to do a Super Flush a couple times -- Prestone sells it, check WallyMart.

This happened on my now sold '95 3.4L. Also check/replace the thermostat (cheap), install a Flush Kit, also cheap at WallyMart.

Worked for me.
 

Try squeeze the hot water heater line that go's in to the heater box, this will help remove any air out of the heater core.
Having own a third gen. TA. back in Alaska, this works.
Also go to Radio Shack and buy a infrared temp. reading tool. (under 15 dollars.)
