Default Pioneer Double Din Radio

I've had some frustration installing this Pioneer AVH-P3300BT head unit in my car. It didn't come with any mounting brackets and there will be about a .5 inch gap on either side of the head unit if I ever find some mounting brackets. I've searched online and the best I've found is a package:

Camaro Double Din Radio Bezels 97-02 - Double D Mods

I would fabricate my bezel to accommodate the head unit but I would still need some sort of mounting bracket and I need to have the stereo installed in two weeks before a nice 24 hr road trip.

If anyone has any insight or can point me in the right direction, please let me know.

I dont know of any stereo to come with mounting hardware. There are too many different configurations. What I did with my install was use the brackets that GM used on the factory unit. Worked great. I have a single din unit and had to buy an adaptor for it, might be that you need an adaptor too? Check places like Best Buy and your local stereo shops for advise on your install. The Double din bezels look like they are a winner to me.

Thanks for the reply.

I ended up emailing the owner of the site with the double din bezel and asked if I could just buy the mounting brackets and he said sure so he should be shipping them out today and i'll probably end up buying the hydrocarbon (2nd one) bezel from that site too.

Man, I wish they still made 1.5DIN units.

They do make them but not every manufacturer does. Some of the new DVD units only come in double, I found a 1.5 din with a slide out screen with DVD, about a year ago but its price put it well out of my market range.

Who still makes 1.5DIN units? I know Pioneer made one a long time ago, as well as Alpine. I found those both on eBay as well as some other brands I've ever heard of. Did I pretty much answer my first question? lol.

It was at a place called Car Toys in Tacoma. I believe it was a Kenwood unit that was in the area of $600. I only spent half that on the deck and 4 speakers. I will try to find the unit and post a linky when I get a chance.

well I just checked Car Toys' web site and they are no longer offering a 1.5 din. Wow alot can change in a year with electronics, my deck is not even listed on Kenwood's website any more and it was new for last year, and is a close out for Car Toys.

I like the customized bezel. I'm gonna end up doing that as a temporary fix while I order one. Three questions.

You molded the mounting brackets by yourself but I didn't see any pics. Just in case this guy falls through, can you share how you made the brackets?

I'm a newbie when it comes to doing stuff with my car but I love doing it and I'm always willing to learn more so I'm wanting to take the wires that came with the head unit and the splice them with the wires coming out of the wiring harness that I also got. How do I know which wires control what (wires coming from the car)? And then how do I connect the parking brake wire to the parking brake?

Thanks for the thread, it really does help.
