Default Pinion seal leak.

Simple question.

The only problem that was noticed when I got my Camaro inspected is that the pinion seal is leaking. The tech. said it wasn't bad at all and it was just wet (not dripping) and could last a while longer in his opinion...

Nonetheless, I was wondering how much/how to/where to get parts for replacing the pinion seal would be.

I searched but didn't find these answers.

Thanks guys!

You can get the seal for any GM parts department.

Thanks.

I was just wondering how much of a pain it was to replace.

It should not be too bad. I am pretty sure you can do it with out removing the pinion itself, just the pinion nut. However if it's like you say and not dripping then leave it alone, it could go years without dripping anything.

Yeah he said he would personally not mess with it as of now, but to just check on it every once and a while, which is common sense.

Anyways, thanks for the information.

Sorry to bring this back up, but the seal seems to be leaking quite a bit. Not dripping, but its soaking some parts under the chassis.

Here are some pics to show, is this that bad?

The thing that concerns me is the yoke and exhaust pipes having a liberal amount of oil on them.

What can I do to check if everything is or isn't ok? Is there anyway to check if the fluid is low before I change the rear end fluid?

I've never messed with a rear end before, but have many other things. I am not gonna lie and say I know what I'm doing when ti comes to whatever needs to be done with it...
