I jacked the car up this afternoon to check all the work I did. It apprears that I didn't change the o2 sensor on the exhaust manifold on the right side, thought I did for some reason,so I am attempted to change it. I am having difficulty accessing it. What is the quickest route without removing the left cat. Thank you Pete for all your help, hopefully i ll have the beast running properly soon.

Can anyone offer any insight on changing the o2 sensor(right side on manifold)? It would be greatly appreciated.

Phil

Specify "right" Driver or passenger side of the vehicle?

Put the car up on jack stands and get it from the bottom, it should be pretty easiest to access from under the car. If you have to, you can take the starter off to free up some room.

I replaced the O2 sensor, cleared code, and light came back on. Same code p0430. Next step is replacing the right side cat. The question I have is, do I have to replace the the cat with a direct fit, or can I use a universal. The car is obd 2, and is California equipped emissions. If I use a universal, will the MIL come back? Thanks a lot for all your help everyone.

You should be able to use a universal fit, just make sure it has the same inlet and outlet diameters as the stock cat.

This my help a little.

P0430 - Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 2). The PCM compares the readings from the rear Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) and front HO2S and determines how well the catalytic converter is working. If the readings get close enough to each other, the PCM sets DTC P0430.

If this is the only code pulled, then it would tend to indicate a catalytic converter starting to go bad. Crossed or damaged HO2S wiring would set a DTC P0430 as well. If the fuel pressure is within specifications and there are no vacuum leaks and the exhaust system is in good shape, then the chances of a bad catalytic converter are good.

Just to make it little clearer: Bank 1 is where cylinder #1 lives, Bank 2 is where cylinder #2 lives.
