I own a second gen and we don't get many late models in the shop. Lately I've been doing gear changes on '06 mustangs(2 GT's and a Roush) That is untill Monday when a guy came in with a Camaro Z28SS, not sure on the year, he tanked the bearings in the 7.5" 10 bolt. What seamed odd to me was the car only had SS badging on the outside and a number stamped Z28SS badge on the center console w/Z28SS floor mats. the other odd ball thing that turned my bosses head was the 3.23 factory gearing it had stuffed in it. Now I don't follow the Camaro line much past 1980 as they have never grabbed my attention. I'm just curious if this is a rare set up for the Camaro or if it's normal occurence?

The SS is a Z28 with a ram air intake on the hood and somewhat stiffer springs. The 3.23 gears are the performance axle gears offered with an automatic transmission. There is nothing really rare about the car, but they were produced through SLP in small numbers.

It was an auto w/the ram air hood. it rode like **** but it was fast. I havent seen any catastrophic failures in these 10 bolts yet, but like I said we don't get many of these types of cars in for repairs.

The 10 bolts are reliable with the stock engine and tires, but wind up breaking if slicks are used. Although they usually break gears, rather than bearings. Bad or wrong lube, maybe????
