Lightbulb OBD 1.5 and scanners

Chasing this information down is becoming tiresome. I can imagine a good portion of members have tried different methods for retrieving codes from their OBD 1.5 systems. If you have used a scanner on one of these cars, please post what system you used, and where you bought it. Scanners are a dime a dozen, some work, some don't. ALDL cables and laptops probably haven't been tested as much, but if you have, please share with the rest of us.

thanks everyone

If you are refering to the OBDI PCM with the OBDII connector, then look for a model 5000 or 6000 AutoXray on Ebay, i have one and it works good. 160.00 to 280.00 last time i checked. You can scann almost everything from 1984 and newer, both OBDI and OBDII, just make sure it comes with all the cables and manual AND it is in ENGLISH because the Spanish cannot display English.

Good luck !!

Actually, what I am trying to do, is compile a list of scanners, cables, and software that will work for these frankensteined cars. Mine for instance is the 12 pin ALDL, that most scanners can't read. I am not the only one with this issue, and the information is so scattered, that I thought a simple list of equipment and what it has been tested on would benefit everyone. Not everyone is trying to build a 10 second car, so the expensive kits may not be what they are looking for, as well as the modders out there need more info at their fingertips need every bell and whistle they can find. Hope this clarifies what I was looking for when starting this thread.

thanks for your input so far.

The 93, 94, and 95 Camaros use OBDI PCMs, the 96 and newer use OBDII PCMs. In some late 94 and most 95 cars GM made an early change to the OBDII connector. The PCM however is still OBDI. All you need to scan these cars is a OBDI scanner and an adapter cord to change the connector pinout.

Try an Autoxray EZ-Scan 6000 or newer, that's what I have -- does all ODB and even CAN, the TechScan 7000 is the new one that does all that and more, and can expand to cover ABS:

Try ebay for a good price...

Actually, if I was in the market for a scanner today, I would buy a WiFi OBD module for use with an iPhone OBD scanner app... There are a few out there... See:
