So I posted in chassis tech area and haven't gotten anything back so I apologize for the double post but I also have new info.
I just installed HIDs yesterday and when I turned them on I hear this annoying humming sound like a jammed motor or something. The weird thing is that as I was driving home last night the noise would stop only for a second and the wipers would move about an inch like they were going to go on by themselves but would then settle back into their off position then the humming would start again. This happened probably 5-7 times during a 25min ride. The noise also stops if I just flat out turn on the wipers.
Any ideas as to what could be going on????

Sounds like you are getting some type electrical feedback into the wiper control board causing the wiper motor to want to energize. I would double check the wiring and grounds on the HID's. Are you sure that the HID's being on is causing this or did it just so happen to do it when they were on?

 

take wiper fure out and see if it still happens. If not trace wiring you messed up somewhere.

 

osduck5: Re: definitely from HIDs. They are plug n play, so I also tried them on the highbeams and the same noise only happened when I turned the Highs on. Went away the minute I turned off high beams. Now opposite happens, I turn on high beams and noise goes away then when I go back to low beams noise again.

carnage9: Re: thanks I'm going to try the fuse. So if it does not make noise with fuse out then it's the wiring on the lights?

 

I understand your lights are (plug & play). But it's possible your current ground system isn't adequate enough to handle the draw, because it sure sounds like feedback to me. If it's not too much of a p.i.t.a., see what happens if you run a separate ground wire from the lights directly to the negative battery terminal.

Well at the time I thought maybe it was the reservoir pump you heard. Im betting it is a bad ground. Sand any paint away from the ground area. If all fails maybe it is just the hids. Lots of times they are faulty out the box.

 

I just noticed something also. Why do you need to connect a ground? My hids only plugged in to the stock wiring no splicing or extra connections.

Does your HID's have ballasts? If not it could be pulling too much from your car.
