New Problem

Simple question: How do you dispose of an old rusty gas tank?

Cut it up and put it in the garbage?? Call your local garbage company and find out if you can bring it down

is it empty?

I've parted out a couple of cars that had worthless gas tanks. I rinsed out the tank, flattened it with a sledge hammer, then took it with the other carcass scrap metal to the local recycler for $.

I stopped at a local auto repair shop, schmoozed with the owner for a bit and he said to bring it by and put it in their dumpster. Problem solved. Oh, I did tape up the filler neck and the fuel pump hole. No odor in the car. Score!!!

You should have first gone to the hobby store and picked up a long length of rocket fuse. Drape it down inside the tank, string it out, hide behind a big tree, and light it.
That should evacuate the explosive fumes pretty well. lol

I don't think the crud and sludge in the tank would burn. That bad boy was really bad.

It's not the liquid part of gasoline that's explosive, it's the fumes.
