Default New here + plans

Hi everyone, I'm new here. I will be buying a manual LT1 Camaro this summer and have begun doing research for what I will be doing to it, but I need some help. I'm looking to make 500HP N/A then sleeving and forging the engine before I go FI.

So I have a couple of questions:

1. What are the largest wheel / drag radial (or street tire) combination that I can run on a stock Camaro? I'd like to run 11"s or 12"s wide in the back and about a 9" wide in the front. Do I need spacers or anything else for a setup like this? Please be detailed.

2. I'm looking at 383 stroker kit and was wondering if it needed any boring to make this work, or can it just be done with the stock block?

3. I would like to know the best head / cam setup for the LT1. I was looking at the patriot heads. Can these be ported, or what would be the best for making high power? and what cam would go with it?

Thanks for all your help. Hope to get to know you guys. And if there is anyone that lives in the southers Nevada / Cali or Northern Arizona area hit me up, and once I get the car we can hit the strip together.

welcome, what year car is this ? you can port any heads. You will need to bore the engine if you want to go with a 383 setup.

lt's are typically found in the 4th gen camaro. Unless swapped into the 3rd gen. 82-92 is the third generation camaro while 93-02 is the 4th gen

Ok, sorry about that, then this thread is misplaced.

the block will also need to be clearanced. Check clearance of the oil pan too. a lot of times you will need a bigger pan

You will need to sleeve, stoke, forge, bore, and build the heck out of that engine to make 500 horses.

Welcome to the forum. If you plan on building a engine you need to think about what you are building it for. If you plan on building a 500 horse power LT1 its not going to be a easy project. Yes it can be done but your talking about a full built engine every thing from the bottom end to the heads and you will need good aftermarket parts so your looking at big money. Also if you do make 500 horses N/A that engine would be horrible if you went FI. All the things that helped you make big numbers on that N/A set up would limit if not stop you from going FI. The high compression and large over lap in the cam that N/A engine love would need to be changed. Once again we are talking about a built N/A engine not a stock LT1 that you can run mild boost on fairly easy.

First off you goal is a little steep unless you have a good amount of experience, time, and hook ups, i would recommend starting off slow with the basic's and working your way up from there.

yeah a motor you just described would probably cost in the neighborhood of 8-10 grand...i'm talking fully forged with the best flowing heads possible and a gigantor cam..

i agree with cbr and do some more research. your goals at this point are just a little too lofty
