Cool New 02 camaro owner with new owner horror stories!

Traded in my 08 pontiac G6 for an 02 ss... eve nthough the ss is much older, i wanted performance, the thing even has the same amount of miles my g6 did, 35000. When i test drove the car (i drove an hour and a half to dealership[ twice) The back end was all out of whack, so i had them take a look. They replaced gaskets, seals, bearing, and the drive axles. They dropped about a grand into the car until I would purchase it (I though i was on top at this point). I felt a little swaying while driving so i checked out the bottom, they did not even bolt my sway bar back in it was hanging down... snagged a bolt from work and did that Car is great, it has dual dual corsas out back, and some black C6 rims with silver lips, ill post some pics sometime soon. As well as all the ss trim options. And of course my favorite thing about these camaros... LS1!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Drove good until a few days later whenm i heard some of the same noises. Also had aleaking differential that i could not get to stop, and many squeaks under the hood I took it to a trusted shop and told them to work out all the kinks. I am storing this car for the Lake michigan Winter and i want it to be in top condition before being stored. Bill came to 1500$, needed new pinions gaskets, oil pan , idler pullies, bearing and many small old car maintenence notes. Quite a hard hit, I may be pursuing the dealership becasue they will not disclose a preliminary checklist to me, my warrany company, or mechanic. Car is running great now but I had a very weird occurence. I was on the highway, got to about 20 then floored it, rpms rose very quickly, i let off at 60, my rpms sat at 3000, but i was still slowing down. then service engine light flashed twice, i took it in to be scanned, only revealing a few misfire codes. anyone have an explanation for that? I, as well as my mechanics have no idea. Also there is a very obnoxious noise in the rear while driving around 5 mph, or slowing down. almost like a muffler resonation.Ill probably post a few questionaire threads next, after i address the search engine on this site of course Im goingto be modding in the spring so yall are now my trusted source besides all the google searching ive done

...wow quite a read eh?

when you floored the car, did it accelerate in proportion to the rate the rpms were increasing? Is your car an A4 or M6?

Your rear end sounds normal for a 10 bolt lol. I went through a very similar situation; 45k miles I put in new axle shafts and bearings and its still a noisy, clunky mother.

You really ought to signup for a good Extended Warranty -- it would have already paid for itself!

At both ford dealerships I worked at we did used car inspections on every used car we sold. I dont think they can legaly keep the check sheet from you if you ask not sure though. I would go after the dealership. A while ago I bought a 00 trans am from a dealership who swore to me all it needed was a clutch and they would pay for it. Come to find out it was the whole damn trans that was shot. At first they didnt want to pay for it but after a few angry letters to the owner of the dealership and threats to sue they bought the car back full price

Thing is, when you buy a used car (from a dealer or private seller), you're agreeing to take it "as-is", unless they're offering a warranty to go with it. With no warranty, it's "buyer beware", and up to you to find any problems with the car before you shell out your money. That would involve taking it to your trusted mechanic for a pre-purchase inspection, which most reputable sellers will agree to. Paying for an inspection could be a money saver for you in the long run. Don't expect a dealer to tell you everything, or claim to know everything that may be wrong. They often flip the car with only fixing the obvious, or known bad things. Not to mention, a problem with the car could come up today that didn't show yesterday, so good luck proving they knew anything about anything.

This is why I bought an Ext. Warranty at the time I bought my Camaro RS -- turned out to be a GREAT investment -- LOTS of repairs in those 3 covered years that way more than paid for itself!
