The car will be fine, unless he rides in it everyday. Large people tend to have a hard time getting out of our cars, because of this they will leverage on the door and eventually wear the pins in the hinges. Be a real friend and take your buddy for a ride.

it isnt about one ride, we normally take a 100mile round trip every few weeks, and i don't want to have to count on teh stress on the car even a few times a year for many years. I want the car to last me for many many years. Heck I have seen how the seats become in his families cars...they are all bigger people.

The only two things I can suggest are that you guys use another car. (most likely one of his) If that isn't an option, just straight out tell him,"I care about my posessions and try my best to preserve them."

I can see how you're stuck on what to do. If you're concerned about hurting his feelings I would simply try a route that would be the least insulting. I would simply explain to him the the chassis is unable to handle such a a load that is not even distributed. Just make sure you phrase it so it doesn't sound like total bull**** and that he won't be able to tear apart your lie.

I know how you feel about letting your bigger friend in your camaro, i felt the same way about my friend who weighed 380+ pounds. I did give him a ride and it did slow the car down a bit but after several trips with him ive not noticed any differance on wear as far as my car goes. Do make sure however that he doesint lift himself out by the door, he did that on his dads car and the door came off.

Idisagree in the Tall people part, I am 6'5 and its the only car ive felt comfortable in. unless you were talking about Shaq tall thenI would agree. as for fat people in the passanger side well just try it and if the car does a side weelie tell them to tuck and roll.

How will it handle a 400 lb passenger?

About like it will handle two 200 lb passengers. No problem except maybe the seat will be a bit stressed.

I have a picture somewhere of our Camaro back when it was lightly modded (340ish RWHP) and my son was about 20. He had himself in the drivers seat and seven girls about his age standing up through the open T-tops or sitting on theT top barand the hood, all showing their, uh . . . "hood bulges" for the photo. The Camaro didn't have a problem withthe 800 pounds of passenbers but the old mans pulse sure hammered looking at the photo!

You may suffer from a temporary misalignment of your suspension components, but I'm sure you'll be just fine. If the car couldn't hold 400lbs, there's no way it would have even left the drawing board. Look at the GVWR and maximum load capacity on the door placard.

tell friend to go on a diet he is going to live a very short life and make health insurance more expensive for the rest of us. obesity is the cause of more preventable deaths than smoking
