The ls-1 is a more modern engine and is by no means outdated, just out-displaced by more modern LS series motors. Upgrades are usually more expensive, the aluminum block is lighter, and although it's not cast, most engines are 6 bolt mains, which means strong durability. Greater horsepower and better fuel economy are also benefits of the LS-1 and LS series, which is why GM is still using these engines.

I am an LT1 owner and I love my motor...would I rather have an LS-1 or other LS...yes...but my LT1 is a strong, reliable motor.
welcome to the forum!!!

Now get over here to Sarasota and help me yank the engine out of my 3rd gen

Not to knock a LT1 and not the reason why because i drive a LS1 but they are a little better engine and lighter and more modern.

yeah, i would give the advantage to the LS1 in performance, but you can build a good LT1 for cheaper.

Already yanked the motor from my 4th gen...don't see how a third gen could be more difficult. Is there $$ involved...lol :0

Pertaining to your question. An LS1 will last longer with fewer repairs needed to be made. An LS1 will also get better fuel mileage without much effort. Engine life is a direct result from owner care. My 3800 had 176k miles on it before I replaced it and burned NO OIL. I only replaced it because I had an 80k mile engine lying around. Greenarrow's LT1 has 200k+ and burns no oil. My friend's LS1 has 246k and doesn't burn oil...

LT1s are more abundant which is why the parts for them are cheaper. They're also cheaper because they are more dated.

While LT1s are cheaper and so are parts, repairs are more abundant. It's like comparing my 3800 to a 3.4L. A lot more things go wrong with the 3400 than they do the 3800.

LT1's have the worst ignition system ever.
