LT1 engine question from a Caprice
Is the LT1 350 engine and auto trans from a 96 Caprice similar to the 4th gen camaros? I'd like to know because someone is selling a 96 Caprice in my area and I was thinking of plucking the eng/trans, have it rebuilt and installing into my 94 camaro. That way my daily driver wont be down to long. Thanks for any replies.

RE: LT1 engine question from a Caprice
There are 2 Caprice engines a 4.3 (L99) and a 5.7 (LT1). Both are LT1 type engines, reverse cooling, optispark, etc.. The water pump has different outlets, and the exhaust manifoldsare different. The heads are cast iron instead aluminum. The compression ratio is 9.9:1 on th 4.3 and 10.5:1 on the 5.7. The camshaft is designed for low end torque in order to get the heavy car moving. The 4.3 is pretty much of a slug, and I don't recommend puttingit in a Camaro. However, they both will bolt right in a Camaro, and externally they both look the same, so be careful on which one you get. The transmission is the same 4L60E.
