Low Oil Light on, but Oil level is fine on dipstick.

Wow this forum has become a waste.
Apparently there are two versions with the same 12603782 (for LS1) part number, will either work? Perhaps the different one is a newer revision, improved? Although it appears the 2nd picture below may be for a different connector?
Like I have now:

the poster correctly determined that the sensor was bad. His choices are ignore and use the dipstick, replace the sensor or jumper the connector and the light then goes out as well and use the dipstick. He was also instructed on how to eliminate the sensor in the event that it leaked.
Sure seems like he derived great value from the forum.

Why someone would not replace the sensor is beyond me, but to each their own.
That less plastic version by the connector unit seems to be only on some factory engines (LS6, etc.), but the replacement part is the style with the full hex end.
The ones that leaked were likely the previous part number which were retired circa 2006, according to the rep I spoke with at Genuine GM Parts (866) 637-2787, the new version has a beefier o-ring, unlike the old one (12579983 old part #):

because the 2 replacements I installed within a 2 year period both ended up leaking and failing and given that we always use the dipstick, not a "warning light", a drain plug was the obvious solution along with jumpering together the wires.
No more leaks, no more low oil light
