Default low coolant light issue

The first time it came on I panic'd stopped at the first gas station and bought some pre blended 50/50 that says good for any model. I opened my hood and pulled the coolant dipstick to find it was at the full mark. I was a little confused so I decided not to add any coolant to the system. The light remained on for a while after I got going again, but later went off for no reason. When I talked to my dad he said that my car can only use red antifreeze since thats what's in the system now, so good thingI didn't add the green **** I bought at the gas station.
non-symptoms: When my engine is cool its right on the "full when engine is stopped" mark, and when its running its also righton the running mark. When I open the radiator cap I can see the antifreeze near the top, and it looks, well... like red coolant to me. It's never boiled over on me yet, and I've had the car for 7k miles or so. I also want to note, the car has not been running hot at all, in fact its stayed a little under the half way mark on the temp gauge (210 degrees) In basically all conditions. The light was on when again today when I came home, but there was no other symptoms (at least that I knew of). Its been off and on for the past hundred miles or so with no noticiable difference in the car with or without this annoying red display.I'm curious if flushing the system would help any (it might need it anyways). Just wondering if you guys know of something I might be forgetting to look for, or if I should just ignore that annoying red light on my dash. ................................ Oh and also, if this has anything to do with a thermostat, I've thought about getting a different one in the past, because my hypertech tune supposedly works better with lower temp thermostats.

My car: 1996 Z28 6M, only "mods" done are NGK plat plugs, Hyptertech computer tune, and a K&N intake

Thank you very much for your time/advice/help all!

I have the same exact thing going on. I have a '99 Z28. The puzzling thing is that it is not overheating at all. Any answers would be appreciated.

Remove the radiator cap, the coolant should be up to neck. If it looks good, clean or change the coolant level sensor at top rear of the radiator.
