Looking into getting new cams

Not much more than what you have now, if the engine is bone stock. You need better breathing heads, intake, exhaust, and tune to take advantage of the bigger cam.

A cam swap will be well over $1000 with parts and labor after all is said and done, and honestly on a 6'er your only looking at maybe 20 rwhp, unless you spend another couple thousand on new heads. Even then your only looking at maybe a 35-40 rwhp gain. Your better off putting a blower on the car or selling it and buying an V8 if you want to mod and go fast.

Hey I got similar questions to this kid, but I got the LT1.

how much can you buy a different head with different valves rockers etc be bought for? And how much would a mid range cam make the cars economy suffer? Obviously the larger flow and possibly slight change in valve timing would help the high end power.. But would the performance at normal operating RPM 2-3k suffer? assuming i could do all the work on my own, what would a decent set of cams/heads run me?? Sorry for all the question marks, but someone here is bound to know and share some expertise!

will if ur goning to do anything to gain hp u can do bolt on and they will help a lil, but as many have said here b4 u want power u have to do the heads (port and polish or new) vaviles milling the whole works, port match the intake, go biger tb if u want.. get a cam that suties ur needs and go headers with a good exshust.. if u want numbers its goes a lil like this i had shorty headers magaflow catback with stock cats, i put a big cam in. and yes i know the cats where still holding back but i paid a guy to do my heads and intake... now from a number of people i talk to a bone stock 97 camaro z28 man trans runs 15.100 to 15.300 in the 1/4 at 5800 ft... my best was 14.56 now i come to find out that the guy that did my heads didn't know **** and didn't do hardly anything to them but make the ports a lil bigger basicly leaving them stock so i had all that do with almost notthing touched to the heads the dyno got 293rear wheel hp and 298tq now when my heads r done right to match the cam and headers i will b more then glad to repost with the numbers i will b pushing... so to put a long story short if ur going to do the top end (cam, headers, heads, intake) to get the power then do it all at once it will b cheaper and if u don't do the heads u might as well leave it alone,,, more flow more go.. as for what all this cost cam 256 Summit, heads dependes if u want to keep stock heads and have them done about 1000 give or take new heads name ur priceseen them for up to 3000 plus... well i hope my wrong doings saves u guys some money
