Default Lookin into the whole LT4 thing

So Ive been thinking about it and while a 383 would be killer buti think i want to go with an LT4 instead and save some money for ther mods to the car. I read on wikipedia that the LT4s put in 97 SS cars had like 330hp but were under rated to protect the LS1s rating.

So heres my question: Ive googled and searched on jegs and summit for a complete LT4 kit (everything thats needed to make my LT1.. an LT4...) but i can only find it in pieces.. and im not sure what all is in a full LT4 kit. So does anyone know where i can get the WHOLE LT4package? Also i have about 127xxx miles on my current engine would it be ideal to find another LT1 block and build that and throw it in? If thats the case should i just go for the 383 and get the extra horses?

Yeah but it says its not available.

If i were to find that kit would it be safe to install it on my current block or should i find another block that i can clean up and swap em out and if thats the casewhats a better bang for the buck an LT4 i can score 425+ (thats what summit rated it at) or a 383 for 6500 i can score 440hp off of? Puttingintoconsideration buying the block for an LT4 build(if using mine is a bad idea to use.. i still need a car to drive so buying another block would be ideal) and all the extras including the swap or buying the 383 and all the extras and the swap which would be a better/cost effective decision?

ah i found this:
http://www.jegs.com/i/Edelbrock/350/7109K/10002/-1

I think for the price of this kit and the numbers ive seen an LT4 kit would be a better deal on the price and power over a 383.. am i correct?

I'm sure you looked at this one also, but I thought I'd try. If possible I would buy another block to work on. That way, if something goes wrong, you still have your car. That's kind of what I'm doing right now. Getting everything together right now, working on it a little at a time, that way it can get done right. That and everything will be fresh when you put it in.

ur block is fine. IMO, a big job like that would be a perfect time for u to tear it down and clean it as u go. you will have the water and oil pumps off anyway, access to the oil pan.

however, buy it in parts and get an lt4 hotcam. the regular lt4 cam (the one that came in the 97SS) just isnt very big. those cars were not underrated to protect anything. there is some debate about thar where some LT1 guys say the swap is godly, some say its a waste of time. ive seen the results on a dyno and know its not a waste. just get the bigger cam while ur at it, and get full boltons

that kit 02 posted has a hotcam. that will probably get u to the 330bhp mark. the guy i know that has the complete swap with boltons made 291rwhp which is right about there. he was also leaning out around 6k

The kit from jegs was the hotcam? So in other words the Lt4 kit with the hotcam will only score me around 30rwhp? or did the guy you know not do a hotcam?
