just a clicking sound when i turn the key

This car has been sitting two years. It was given to me (1997 z28, auto trans). When I go to turn the key, all there is is a fast paced clicking sound (someone else said it sounds like a fan or something, but I have no idea). Is there something I should look for this being? I'm planning on rebuilding the motor (well, having it rebuilt) and swapping the trans out with my 1994 z (it has a 6sp manual). Any advice or pointers on what to look for being wrong would be appreciated, as well as problems I may run into. Thanks!

P.S. - Yes, I did try to search function, and read the sticky's. I didn't see anything that really helped me out.

battery is dead or toast or you have a bad connection from one of the wires/cables. take the battery cables off and wire brush the heck outa them, brush the battery terminals as well and reconnect. you also have a power junction box (small red plastic box) on the passenger side fender well by the battery. take the wires lose from there and look for any signs of damage or corrosion. wire brush them too and reconnect.

hook a battery charger to the battery and charge it or switch with a charged one.

Clicking sound is probably the starter. Like Craby said, check/charge/replace the battery.

two years just sitting i would say the battery is drained, i put a trickle charger on it after the battery is charged
