Interpreting VIN
Hi everyone,
posting here in case I didn't post it properly the first time. I have a '94 Z28 convertible, and so far I have my VIN figured out except for the last six digits. I believe they are supposed to indicate the production number but my last 6 digits are 161135 and it's my understanding only about a hundred and twenty thousand Camaros were made in 1994. What am I missing? |

Attached are the pages from the 1994 Service Manual that gives the best explanation of how to decipher the VIN, engine, transmission numbers. Hope this helps you.
By the way, the Camaro White Book gives the 1994 total production as 119799. Because the VINs start at 100,001, you will have to subtract 100,000 from your VIN sequence to get the order it was made. In this case, the car was the 61,135th Camaro built. |

thanks! That clears it up! (I wonder why they started at 100001 and not 000001?)
