I see that the new LS9 Crate Engine is now for sale at a $21,000. I was thinking about selling my 96 and saving up for the 2011 Camaro SS but seeing this got me thinking that an LS9 swop in my 96 would be sweet two. Not only would it be rare but also it would be the same price if not cheaper than 2011 SS. I also heard that the LS9 is an LS7 with a supercharger. I know ppl put LS7 in a forth gen camaros i was thinking of all the work that would have to go into a progect like this. I would need a new computer and K member but what else

First off, the LS9 is not an LS7 with a supercharger, it's a modified LS3 with a supercharger. That said, you're going to need a new K-member, bell-housing, input shaft etc. in order to do the swap, your best bet is going to be an LS1 donor Camaro and then you'll have to get all the electronic stuff figured out on your own...

 

yeah you can make more power and spend less modifying a ls1.but i guess its not as cool saying you have an ls1

 

Sounds like alot of $$$. Yea it would be different but is it worth the money to have to buy everything and then pay for the install material too? Hardly seems worth it all the time and money unless you're @#$% $$$. For 21k you can have build up your current engine and have a 8 second car. Just my 2 cents.

 

21 grand is a good down payment on a house....

 

he said ls1 donor car because the ls9 has many compatible parts, including the bell housing and whatnot.

the ls9 should be physically taller than the ls3 due to the SC, so you will probably have to cut the cowl if you cant find a kmember to drop it enough

Since you are talking money, the 2011 Camaro SS will hold a good bit of its value for some time. Your 96 would be worth less then the motor once you have it installed.

 

If it were me and it isnt I would build the motor in your camaro that 21000 can go a long way into engine and drive train components which will make you more than happy with the results and keep more value with your camaro since the motor and drive train numbers match. Just my 1 cent.

matching numbers really dont do much on a 96 camaro thats only valued at 3200 and LS motor would rase the value of the car cuz any dealer ship wont give me 2500 for it cuz of the after market parts on it all ready cuz that stuff lowers the value of a car so i was just thinking on resale cuz any car with an LS motor in it is worth about 8-9000 where my 96 is worth a 1/3
