Default How to check Opti

OK, so I checked out the Fuel pressure and everything is OK. On to the Opti. (car stalls after running for 1 minute). Can someone tell me how to do a check on the Opti spark. I dont want to go through the expense of replacing it without knowing for sure it is the problem. Thanks.

does it start up again 15-25 minutes later? if so try new ignition control module,,, holy crab price for them jumped from when I got one, picked up another just to have in the car st the time, I was driving out to the middle of nowhere then and no cell for miles in some areas. the old one would get me down the road for a mile or two then die, about the time a ride/tow showed up it would start right up and run to home. new one worked till I switched to coil per plug setup.

Yup, started right up this morning , ran for 3-4 minutes and died. Still think it may be the ignition control module ? Thanks for all your help. Waiting to hear back !!!

I would try that before opti for sure. cannot believe the price increased that much. might be able to return but most parts stores have non return policy on electronics. maybe call around wrecking yards and see if they have a known working one for good price. I did not get a code when mine went.

Yeah, called a bunch of auto parts stores and no one has the ability to test the ICM , in or out of the car (I removed it this morning). They start around $50 and go up to over $100. Like you said, better than tearing into the Opti Spark, for starters I guess. If you can think of any other tests please let me know. Thanks

Well put the ICM back in and cranked it but it wouldn't start. But something strange happened, WhenI pulled the key out, the cluster lights stayed on, i.e. check engine light, check gages light, etc all stayed on . Reinserted key and it took several tries to get it where the cluster lights went out when i PULLED THE KEY. iS THIS EVEN MORE REASON TO ASSUME THE ICM IS BAD ?

clean the connectors on the key, maybe contact cleaner in the key hole and let dry.
