Default High idle and overheating

I have a 94 3.4l camaro with a 4 speed auto. Car has 78k miles and idles usually around 900 and lately its been at 1500 and sometimes surges to 2000 in park or neutral. Today i took it out and it began to overheat so i turned the heat on full and it started to go down but nowhere near normal. What does this sound like to you guys? Would really like to skip the trip to mechanic if at all possible. Thanks

ok ill take a guess at it. could be the beginning of a headgasket going bad. could be intake is leaking. check coolant level in radiator.

I had a leak in one of my hoses, Radiator fluid went down , and i currently have a cracked cyl head, both attributed to my cooling problems. I never had and issue with high idle, mine would get lower, but im dure my new valaves and (soon to be new head), and new hose will combat both of these problems. Get it checked now sooner than later bro. Im pretty sure i contributed to my cyl head cracking by putting it off, that and thinking "Stepping on the gas" would solve an issue
