Default Help! '97 Z28 been in storage for a while now won't start.

Hi
I have a 1997 Z28 which has been garaged and covered its whole life, but hasn't been started for several months - probably close to a year.
It's been sitting there with a dead battery all this time. Now with a new battery and 5 gal. of fresh gas it won't start. It actually started right up the first time and ran for about 3 seconds and shut off. Now just rolls and rolls and won't fire.
Everything looks fine under the hood, no chance of mice getting in or anything. When I turn the key in the on position I hear no fuel pump running, but when I turn the key off there is a fuel pump sound for about 2-3 seconds.
Was wondering if it may have anything to do with the anti theft or computer or anything because of the battery being dead for so long and how I may go about checking it.
It will fire for a second or 2 if I shoot a little starting fluid in air intake.

Thanks for any help.

With key off you should be hear the fuel pump. You should check for fuel pressure. Most likely your fuel pump got crap in it from the old gas.

gorn must have hit some wrong keys. the pump should not be coming on when the key is off. it should come on for 2 to 3 seconds when u first turn the key on. something is going on. check your fuses inside and under the hood. can u get a scanner hooked to it and see if its got any codes stored? could be fuel pump like gorn says.

LOL you are right,,, I rush too much some times. The ignition turning off the fuel pump is concidered a saftey issue.

i just had basically the same issue, but mine was like it ran out of gas and then sat til i got the time to do the work. first off i checked all the fuses, cheapest fix of all. after that wasnt it i did a fuel filter, the next cheapest. when that wasnt it i replaced the fuel pump relay the next cheapest. when that wasnt it i cracked open the tank and replaced the pump with a walbro 255. i primed it once and it fired right up, runs even better with the 255 then it did before. but what you have said id do the same but you obviously arent getting fuel. go for the same steps i did or just change out the pump. its easy

Thanks everyone for the responses.

I'm going to follow EVOGASM's steps.

It has to be something with it not getting fuel. I really can't hear anything at all fuel pump wise with the key in the on position and my head laying on the back seat hump, however there is also that stupid loud dinging noise from the dash when the key is on that is hard to hear over.

have someone get underneath your car and kick the tank as you try to start it
