heater problems in 93z

I just bought a 93 z-28. I drove it 100miles to get it home and it ran fine. The temp was ok but no heat. I found a lot of things wrong after getting it home. I washed it and it would not start. I burned up the starter so got a new one. I was then told to dry out the disty and thats where it got pricey. I broke it getting it off. So it now has a new disty, cap, plugs, and wires. I also noticed the water pump was bad when I had it off. So that got replaced with a new one as well as the thermostat. After all that I still have no heat. I flushed the system out and that did nothing. I felt the heater core hoses prior to the flush and they were both about the same temp but it was not hot. Oh after I got all the parts on and got it running again the temp guage will not go over 120. Not at idle or in town or on the high way. I have put close to $1000 in parts into it all in the same week I bought it. So I am now broke and cold. If anyone has any ideas please help.

If the temp really stays below 120, it is a good sign that the t'stat is stuck open. Verify the temp gage is accurate.
Are the fans on at such a low temp?
If the heater core is clear, both hoses should be at the same temperature, and be as hot as the radiator hoses. If not, try disconnecting both heater hoses at the front of the engine, stick a garden hose with a nozzle into one of the hoses and turn the water on. The water pressure may be enough to blow all the gunk in the heater core out the other hose. Also one of the hoses may have a restrictorstuck in it near the front end of the hose. Pull the restrictor out and make sure it is not clogged.

thanks for the help guys. I decided to not belive the guage today as i ran out of gas and it said i had 1\4 tank. End result the plug in the cluster was loose so the temp might have been wrong as well. As far as the heater I read apost saying something about blowing air in the heater core so i pulled one of the heater core hoses and blew air into the system and it took alot of pressure then out of nowhere a pop and a rush of water and antifreeze came out of the heater core. I put it all back togeather and filled the radiator but it is to late to start my car as its 2am so i will start it in the morning and see what happens.
