Default Hatchback Lock assembley

Hi,

My hatchback lock froze. I'm assuming I need to replace the lock. Has anyone done this or is there a good way to unfreeze the lock?

is the key part frozen or the electric part of it or both?

The electrical part works. The key was stuck inside the lock but I was able to wiggle it out. The key tumblers still won't turn so I can't close my hatch.

I tried oiling the lock but the tumblers are still frozen.

Well you could always remove the 3 screws holding the latch and pull it off the lock actuator rod. Move or bend the rod out of the way and bolt the latch back, taking care to put it back exactly where it was before. Then take your time fixing or replacing the lock.

lube it up and see if you can get the linkage to move without breaking anything. same with the key lube it up and put key in and take it out till it loosens up then try turning it a little.

Default Cop Out

I've tried everything except a sledge hammer. I think I will just take it to the dealer and have the lock replaced.

When you say frozen do you mean temperature or just stuck? If temperature frozen get some lock de-icer from walmart or auto parts store. $1.99 and it has good lubricant in it not oil which is bad for locks.

Stuck. The car sat for a year while dear damage was repaired so the hatch back wasn't used.

OK So you say hatchback, can you get to the lock mechanism crawling through from back seat? Spray it with something like Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster, let it soak and then try to work it back and forth.

Yes I can and I have tried that. I haven't tried spraying from the back side, only from the outside. I will give spraying the back a try.
