Ground Locations

Does anyone know were most of the stock ground wire locations are on a 2001 ss? i keep getting a short somewere and its blowing the tail light fuse. normally a 20 amp. it works for a few hours and then it blows agian. anyone ever had this issue? and if not any ideas on were i should start looking before i rip the interior out to check every wire inch by inch?

pick up a repair manual for your year and model. i doubt its a ground wire issue, most likely a hot wire being grounded. do you have a aftermarket amp mounted in the hatch area. the harness in the hatch area has been an spot for issues. i would think the coluum is another spot that you would want to look.

Thanks for the advice crabby, i checked both today and found nothing wrong. its wierd. sometimes it works then others it blows the fuse instantly. well im cold as hell out of beer and im missing part of my skin on those sharp plastic edges. time to call it a day. try again next week when i get time off... and no amp. its not stock stereo or speakers either.. i may try rewiring it later. whoever had this car before me didnt know wiring at all.

oh boy,,, look for any work done and redo is a good plan. may have wired something into that circuit, anything else not working?

nope its just the tail lamp fuse, which kills the dash lights too. i just tested it with a 50 for giggles and it blew it too. im getting frstrated. i work 86 hour weeks and that doesnt leave much time to do anything

that should have heated the wires up and where the short is. careful you dont get things to hot, dont need no fire.

i had the fire thought go through my head right after it popped lol

Chris Wood Mar 18, 2012 10:49 PM

fire would show me exactly were it is though
