Got my new car, ready to mod

bought my 96 z28 six spd yesterday, saved myself 4300 bucks by not going with the 02. so now its time to put that saved money into it, and make it even better than the ls1 i didnt get. the car already has

gale banks engineering cat-back exhaust system with 4 sebring tuning tips
GM performance parts cold-air induction system (made by SLP)
MSD Distributor cap and rotor
MSD 8.5mm red spark plug wires wrapped in taylor heat shields
Hypertech Powerstat 160 degree thermostat
CAGS/Skip Shift Solenoid delete
B&M shifter knob, tinted windows, and RK Sport carbon fiber badging

(All according to records from 2 owners ago).

i want to do some things for detailing, little interrior cover here and there, but i definately want to get the hp up. so im thinking CAI (should i get k&n or is there a better one). maybe magna flows (whats the difference between real duals and Y's?), and when tires wear out gonna replace wheels (maybe z06's not sure yet).

any suggestions?

Congrats on the purchase! So you went with the LT1! As for mods, if I were you I would look into some LT headers and a nice tune if your plans aren't to deep!

yep long tube headers. 1 3/4 with the 3 in out. a catted y pipe. slp is fine from what ive heard just as good as any. how much money? kooks set up (the best and most) with cats on y will run 1600 up depending on what kind and if coated and with what. heads cam and intake done will cost 1800, gaskets 200. injectors 30lb 280, 58mm tb 300, tune prom/ecu 160 bucks,,,, add 200 just cuse something always comes up and u should be in the 400 hp area.

He is right on

Headers, Y-pipe, and cam should be at the top of your list. As also stated above a good tune will be a must.

long tube headers, bigger camshafts, and intake and a nice tune is what you should be looking at first

ok. well i still got some pocketed saved from the sale, but im lookin at about 400 bucks every 2 weeks to put into this. can someone explain to me the difference between a Y Pipe exhaust and true duals? why is there a difference in preference

craby 08-03-2009 05:31 PM

y pipe is used (on the most 4th gen camaros) to join the exhaust from both sides of the motor together, then it flows back to the muffler and is then split back into two before it comes out. dual exhaust the pipes stay separate all the way back. the bad on this for the 4th gen cars is they are a low car and there is no space for another pipe to fit anywhere so they hang down. scrape and bang on everything.
