Tune up, inspection, make sure all is as it should be for safe operation of your car.
Definitely do some research and figure out what you want from your car. Read some builds that people have done of theirs to get ideas. Are you trying to make a track day beast? Or are you making a nice, powerful, reliable DD?
The LS1 is a great starting point to build something. You just have to decide what you want out ouf your car.
