So I checked it out today. Drives nice, doesn't looks like it needs anything mechanically. Part of the seal on the window on the convertible top was coming off, small tear in the inner lining. Paint looked ok, some minor surface blemishes in spots and 2 spots where it was chipped off. Idk, still mulling it over in my head....

Also I found a thread on a different site that listed these sites for upgrades to the 3800 platform:

www.zzperformance.com
www.intense-racing.com
www.wbodystore.com

Supposedly they specialize in 3.8L engines, mostly supercharged, but there is stuff available for naturally aspirated engines too. Everything on the site is geared towards the Pontiac GTP and such, but will they also work for the Camaro? I find it odd they wouldn't mention that along with the other cars.

The GTP is a FWD with the engine mounted transveresly. Not much in terms of aftermarket parts will fit both the GTP and Camaro. The S/C on the GTP won't fit either without a lot of custom fab work.

i'm probably becoming such a pest now lol but I just can't decide on this car....the main thing that keeps bringing me back is the low mileage...I don't necessarily need a new car (this would actually b 5 years older than what I am driving now) but I hate to pass this up if its a really good deal...I def know I'd have to repair/replace the vert top and I guess see what I can do for the paint...I'm not looking at this completely from a performance standpoint because I know people are just going to say buy a V8 instead, but are there still things I can do to this to give it a little more pep for a nice fun dd? thanks in advance for any replies hehe

Regardless of its low miles, the car is 15 years old or so. Time kills cars, especially if they aren't driven more than a few thousand miles a year. Is it a good deal for what it is? probably. Would I buy that? No I would not. I would rather find a slightly newer fbody, with a few more miles for the same price (v6 model). I owned a 02 v6 before my t/a. If i could do it all over again, id probably not get the v6 again. I paid more for the car because it was a Camaro and not just a regular sedan or something, yet the performance was not really there. You can find Monte SS and Grand Prix's around that price range and they will be more luxurious inside and generally go just as fast, and faster (same 3.8L just S/C in certain applications).

If the vert top needs repair stay away. It's alot of work to do. If you pay someone to do it you'll pay alot. I have a 96 3800 v6. I've done one mod and that's higher rear gear ratio. I went from a 3.23 to a 4.10. Big difference in acceleration but still not enough. If I could go back to when I bought my car I would have went for the v8 that had 100k miles instead of my 60k miles v6. The things I plan on doing to my v6 is new clutch ( waiting for it to show up.) bilsteins shocks, one peice drive shaft, catback and possibly turbo. The turbo will put me up with the v8 cars but the v8s will still have more possibilities of putting it under 10s in the quarter mile. So it's really up to what you want. You can get the v6 put a cam, exhaust, cold air intake and tune which would put you between 240 and 260 hp or go for a v8 and do the same mods to get 400-500 hp.

96 was also the first year for the 3800 and wasn't that also the first year of OBDII, or was 96 still stuck in that OBD1.5 stage?
OBDII. Early to mid 95s was OBD1.5
