gears and tires

Simple question.
If i put 343 rearend gears and larger rims would the speedo say my car is going faster than it is or slower than it really is?

trick question,,, depends on the size/hieght of the tires. even so the tires would have to be huge to make up for the difference. pretty sure the 95 has the different colored gears in the trans to adjust for gear change. http://www.transmissioncenter.net/sp...n_______va.htm

If you get the right combo you will be going the correct speed.

Taller gears usually means faster reading on the gauge

Taller tires usually means slower reading on the gauge.

So it would be hard to tell. A speedo shop, dyno shop or GM should be able to reprogram your computer to even out the difference.

The different colored gears were on the 4L60, the 4L60E used the computer for adjustments.

im thinking the early 4l60e had gears and they changed to electronic speedo in 96. they are all electric. anyways you can take the speedo sensor out of the tail shaft easily and look in there to see if its got a reluctor or gears. the link shows the different speedo's
