I've got a 2000 SS and I avg. 17-20 when I was keeping track(and it was newer) Depends on driving style and whether it's an auto or six speed. Just remember even though a V-6 has fewer cylinders, it's still working harder (pronounced burning more gas) to move the same load as the V-8. Stay off the gas and drive it normal and I think you'll do fine with the V-8 (especially a Six speed)

First...what kind of camaro are you looking for?

4th gen V8's can get really good Highway mileage, and it really comes down to how you drive...

I get good gas mpg in my 3.8 1996...but if there was a Z28 when I was looking, I would have gotten that...

im looking into the 98; z28 cuz i want to have a quick car for a low price. the 98 is prob the cheapest of the ls1 and i want to mod it and race at the track. its going to be under heavy acceleration.

I have an 02 Z28, 6 speed. In the city, it usually ranges from 17-21...the former being on really short trips (<=2-5 miles) and the latter being medium trips and conservative driving. On the highway I get anywhere from 23-27. That 6th gear really helps eek out extra mileage with conservative driving.

That's what I like about a stick, you often get two transmissions in one: performance or economy when you need it as well as being fun to drive.

Hope this helps.

Dude, gas mileage sucks. I have 34 miles on my tank right now, and have already burnt 1/8th of a tank. Not sure it it's the way I drive it, or not. 6spd 2000 SS. Maybe I ought to average it out but driving it is so expensive. I drive a 1993 Toyota Corolla everyday, it's my $1200 car because I just can't afford to drive the Camaro everyday. But that's me onan E4salary with a wife, house, truck, and saint bernard.
