Fuel gauge fluctuations - 95 3.4L
Hi everyone...first post here
I've got an old '95 3.4 Camaro (my first car) that I'm trying to fix up a bit. When I stopped driving it a few years ago, the fuel gauge was starting to have some issues. Just got the car out of the garage, and when you drive it around, it generally sits where the fuel level is, but sometimes when accelerating or changing elevation, the gauge will go up past the full marker. Eventually, it settles back down again. When I just put some gas in it (should be half a tank), the gauge went all the way up past full and didn't come down for awhile.
What might I be looking at with this issue? Something with the sender unit, or with the gauge itself, or something else?

most of it is the shape and angle of the tank. its skinny on the bottom so once it gets down to where the gage starts to move you probly got half tank. my first 4th gen ran out of gas just below the last mark, this one goes all the way to e but as soon as it gets there your out. https://camaroforums.com/forum/lt1-l...uta-gas-69608/

Thank you for the response. I never had trouble with the fuel gauge for the several years I was driving the car on a daily basis, though it seems a lot of people have issues with this. If the sending unit is the issue on my car, I assume the whole tank has to be removed/whole sending unit has to be replaced?

I had 3 different fuel pump/sending units in my 1996 3800, The all read as the above article states. This is also true on my 1993 Z.
This is something they must have addresses in the newer cars as my 2000 is much more accurate then my 96 ever was.
