Default flange question

ok first i want to apologize for my last thread but the guy ended screwing me out of the deal. after battling with him and going to court i just said screw it and came across a 96 camaro z28 for $4250.

the question.....
the car came stock with bbk shorties on it and i found a guy in my area that has true dual exhaust he is wanting to trade for my stock y pipe set up. He has long tubes on his firebird so i have to run extra piping to get it up to my headers, Can i reuse my flanges that are currently connected to the headers or do i have to buy new flanges?

I know flanges are 10 buck a piece, the reason im asking if i can save 20 bucks i will cause of the holidays money is very short at the moment

also will it hurt to drive with open shorties for like 70 miles to get my to my local mechanic?

the person who has the exhaust set up lives 70 miles away

Can flanges be reused? Sure, I could reuse flanges, assuming they are the same, but can you? It will take a little time to reuse them and for most pros it would cost you more to reuse an old exhaust part then just to buy new ones.

You might get away with long tubes but at 2000 RPMs and shorties the flames are going to be shooting out about 8". I would be very surprised is you made in 15 minutes before your car was completely ablaze. The only thing that might keep the car from burning is once enough wires melt the motor will shut off.

There are a few things about the deal that do not add up. BBK shorties (like all shorties I know about) do not use stock Y pipe. They use a BBK pipe.
BBK Performance Products 1567, BBK GM Car Exhaust Headers | BBK Performance Products

Why someone would need a BBK y-pipe and not the headers is beyond me. Also the way shorty headers are designed they have a ball type flange because of the way the engine moves. Most long tube headers just have a flared flange, nothing like the shorty ball flange. To convert a true duel long header system to shorty ball flange system is going to take some decent fab skills. If I was paying a shop I would expect a $3-400 bill and that assumes they can find the right ball flanges.

Long tubes no *****

Yeah my y pipe does not look like that at all it does how ever look stock, probably the reason it looks like it hangs low and scrapes every so often. But anyways I would love nothing more than Long tubes as much as the next person but they are far to expensive for me at the moment. I did back it of the deal my car is worth far more than some true dual exhaust.

Thanks horn for the fee back
