Default Fake 93 Pace Car?

So.. I was replacing those god awful Bose speaker/amp things here and I noticed something odd when I was wiping the door jam clean. I could see on the very outer edge of the passenger side door a teal, pink, yellow, and purple bits of color that apparently hadnt been properly(cheaply Im guessing) painted over. Now for the two months ive had it, my white/black top 93 camaro has always had the Pace Car badge up front but the interior nor the exterior matched up so I figured someone just liked the badge and stuck it on. Now seeing the doorjam, there is some confirmation that this car was painted with the Pace Car design at some point in its life. Well that got me doing some sifting through the web and I discovered the article showing all the VIN numbers that the 93 pace cars had. Mine was not one of them. Why would someone go through all the trouble of making the car look like a Pace Car? Is this a common occurrence?

There are more 1969 RS/SS Camaro now then there was in 1980. You can even buy all the documentation needed to prove your clone is the real deal. Cloning rare cars is very common. In many cases there are more clones on the road then originals.

It's possible that your original passenger door was damaged and replaced with one from a parted out pace car. Are the hinge bolts chipped or rounded at all, or do the corners look crisp like new? Tampered hinge bolts would indicate that the door would have been messed with.

I just took a look and they look old.. Both the driver and passenger side are very aged looking. I think if it was just the door from one it wouldn't have the badge up front. A choose look at the badge shows a spot where the camaro emblem would have been.
