You want to put an LS1 in a 97 and still have everything work? You need most of the car. Its a pretty big project. What wrong with your LT1?

Engine swap first post... again...
OK here is what you need to do...

This thread is the V6-V8 thread but it is the same proceedure. Plus you will need the nose of the 98-02 to clear the engine and intake.

There is no complete list I am aware of. If you find one please post it. We know that the swap between 98 and 97 is not too bad. The 01 is drive by wire so it needs a lot. Rebuilding the LT1 will be a lot easier then this swap. For what you can sell a good LS1 for you could buy a nice low miles LT1.

The LS1 engine when installed in a Camaro was Drive by Cable until 2002. Corvette got the Drive by Wire. The only drive by wire in a Camaro was the 3.8L engine. Swapping from a LT1 to an LS1 engine is the same as going from a early V6 to a LS1. Just about the whole car is going to need to be replaced. When my friend did it he found things like the heater boxes were different (you being a 97 may not have to worry about those since you will have the same dash as the LS1 car had) By the time he was done with the swap the only thing left, and I do mean the only things, were the seats, carpet, body, and headliner. Everything else down to the brake and fuel lines had to be swapped over. He went from a 96 V6 to a 2000 Z28

Unless, you do a 'custom' swap. You need a big car know-how brain. for example, i plan on running a fuel injected gen-1 smallblock in my 96. and use a completely hydraulically controlled 700-r4. i deleted the complete HVAC system, along with the entire anti-lock brake system. Im probably going to remove the body control module/all factory wiring and make a complete and custom harness for my window regulators, power seat, radio, etc. i know how to deal with electronics, ohms law, resistance, and other electrical theories. im going to pretty much delete everything and start from a bare metal body.
You think im crazy? "good luck man" ?? heres the kicker... i know what im doing. Not to brag, but if you have the brains you can do ANYTHING to a car. even do something redic like put a 454 in a pontiac fiero.
But i think what most of you are saying is the average Joe wouldnt know how to swap from v6-->LS1 or LT-->LS etc.. its definatly not a job for the average dude who knows how to change oil, the battery, spark plugs, air fliter, wheels, and the occasional tie rod end
