Engine too cold?
I just got the A/C repaired in my 94 V6... and now I've noticed what seems (to me) to be strange behavior. When I have the A/C turned on, the cooling fan stays engaged, and the temp gauge stays very low (see this photo: http://www.flickr.com/photos/wiskow/...n/photostream/). When the A/C is off, then the cooling fans operate normally and the temp gauge gets up to the middle range where it should be. After searching through this forum and reading more, however, I'm beginning to wonder if this is normal behavior for these cars. Is the cooling fan designed to always stay on when the A/C is on? If so, and because outside temperatures are cool right now, I guess that would explain why the engine temp stays so low. I've just never noticed this in any other car I've ever owned, so I thought I'd ask here just to be sure.
Yes, that's correct, the cooling fan goes on with the A/C. Since your old A/C wasn't working correctly, the fan most likely wasn't going on. That's why it seems different to you now...it is.

For complete info about the cooling system, check this post. It gives detailed info on what coolant temp and what A/C pressure will cause the fans to be on for high/low speeds. What you described sounds pretty normal.

Thanks, Camaro 69 and nnewquist. Your responses have given me peace of mind.
It just seemed odd to me that the engine wasn't heating up. At first I feared that I may have a dead thermostat. But I guess all is well.
