Not sure who told you could not pull the motor from the top. It is pretty common knowledge it will come out that way. It is also pretty common knowledge that it is much less work to drop out the bottom using the same tools.

If you get a custom motor mounts made you can make the engine fit. You can use a LT1 Crossmember and modify the motor mount slightly but then your going to have to custom make an oil pan. The distributor will fit but you have to pull the motor out of the car to work on it even to change the cap. Your going to need to cut the cowl and get a different hood.

The 3800 your pulling has more power then the 79 350, You should think about just fixing it. Most 3.4 owner would kill for a 3800 because all the things you can do to it.

if you pull the engine forward youll need a longer driveshaft and to extend the trans mount bracket

Trans mount is another thing we have not talked about. Remember the rear bolts to the trans. Old school trans does not have the mounts for it. 2 problems with moving the engine forwards. One you have a 4 link rear. As the rear goes up and down it pivots to a center point. That center point is right in the middle of the forward U-joint. You move the engine forward and that is not longer the pivot point you could snap you drive shaft or break your tranny housing. Second the hood area narrows VERY quickly make sure you measure twice. Of course if your moving the engine forward you going to need custom mount and a custom oil pan.

Also the 4th get f body is already front hvy. You put that hvy all cast motor forward much at all your car is going to handle like crap.

The 3800 is one of the most common motors in junk yards. You can find a low miles one for $400 240HP 28 MPG is a cake walk with a 3800.

Yeah, Solution, I'd just get another 3800. At this point, your spending too much money and time for that kind of swap and something(s) is/are going to break and more money will have to be put down. You're best off just finding a 3800 (like Gorn said, they're very common and inexpensive) and putting that back in. With the money you save, you can build it up pretty nicely.

sounds to more like you have a lot more to worry about than an engine swap... should part it out and find something with a solid frame to work on... if one of the tires doesn't even touch the ground you prob need frame work.. and that's not cheap
