Default emergency brake comes loose.

sometimes when i am parking my 6 speed and pull the emergency brake up, it comes completely loose and flys all the way to the upward position. i can put it back down and push the button and pull it back up and it works fine. what would cause this? the brake works completely fine afterwards in the set position. thanks

there is a brake lever adjuster in the rear caliper. it takes two to adjust. the lever setup itself has a self adjuster also. im wondering if that may need to be looked at. im trying to get this picture thing to work. had my daughter do it earlier and i watched but cant seem to make it work. anyways theres a screw on the backside of the caliper that is adjusted to a get a certain clearance (.61mm to .71mm) at the actuator lever. sorry man these are the best pics i can do. hope u can see. dang on the second pic A is at the end of that lever.

Mine used to do that to me too, but not any more since I sold the car!
The cable at the base of handle runs around a curved cam with a channel in it which keeps the cable in place. Too much slop in the cable leaves slack at the handle and it can slip off the cam. Tightening the cable should take care of it.
