I haven't messed with the EGR issue yet. But my car surges at idle. Like every 6-8 second the rpms jump by like 75-100 and come right back down. And the car sputters and backfires in the intake sometimes if I'm not at WOT. At WOT it seems to run okay

Why would there be oil in my intake elbow? I pulled the grommet off of the valve cover thinking it was the pcv valve only to discover that the pcv valve is located on the opposite valve cover. Any ideas why I'm getting oil through the tube going from my valve cover to my intake elbow?

Also it's been over a year since I recharged my k&n air filter. I pulled out out of the air dam today and it was black and full of muddy junk so I cleaned it and re oiled it. Hopefully that helps some.

Go back and reread the part about where I said you might be having blow-by issues, and see if that makes sense to you.
Or do you not know what blow-by is, and what issues it causes?

According to GM number 26 is the Catalytic Converter Bracket. Is this the part that is probably causing the rattle?

the plugged intake would cause a vacuum in the air intake side of the tb, that could have helped to reverse the flow of air.

Ok here's more news! I pulled the throttle body today to see if there was any crud blocking the EGR port and I ran a clothes hanger through the EGR port to clear any debris. This fixed nothing. However, my intake manifold smelled horribly of gasoline fumes. Could this mean I have a leaky injector? That would explain my sputtering, backfiring, and horrid gas mileage (19 on hwy)... Any ideas???

I'm not sure I think it's cleared up. I haven't read the codes again. Also my car is now officially out of commission for a week or two. While putting the throttle body back on I guess I cranked the bolts too tight because there's a crack where the bottom tb bolt goes and my car is idling at 2500rpm now. I ordered a new upper intake manifold and a bought a full intake gasket set at oreillys just now. So if my upper intake a gummed up, it's getting replaced.
