Door Speakers

I'm in need of two new door speakers, I found stock ones in an ecklers magazine but as I recall they were $80 a piece. I've tried calling junk yards in the area but there aren't any f-bodies in any of them. I really don't want to spend $160 on speakers as I'm in need of a new exhaust system and battery. Any ideas?

check on crutc hfields site and see what will work. then buy or go find best price.

Well unless you have the bose/infinity system, just about any 6.5" speaker will work. You could get some cheapie wal-mart ones to work until you can get some better ones. Or go looking through the junk yards at other GM cars and you should find some that'll work.

Thanks guys. If I replace my speakers with aftermarket ones do I need to rewire anything?

like green arrow says it depends on what stereo system you have. if its bose/infinity you will have to run new wires to the front speakers.

In my C4 Vette, each Bose speaker has it's own amp. Isn't the Camaro the same way? If so, don't expect off the shelf speakers to work above a whisper with the Bose stereo.
And often times, when those speakers go out, it's the amp not the speaker that's the problem.

Yeah the bose speakers have their own amps. I know for sure the front speakers have terminal just like aftermarkets (Female spade connector type). And that's whats connected to the actual speaker, not the multiple pin connector one.

If you have a stock stereo emitting sound out of your bose system, then replacing the stock speakers with aftermarket 6.5 will work fine, as long ans you mount it to the speaker amp housing and plug it in.

Now if you want to do an aftermarket radio, you can run new wires, or get a output converter. Reason being, some grounds are shared to the amp from the harness, this will make an after market work with your harness. This one comes with directions for our bose systems and is easy to install.

In my Lumina Z34 the Bose speakers were two ohm, so if you plug a standard four ohm into it they're not going to be as loud and powerful. I would guess the other Bose car systems are similar.
