Where do I take a measurement? Im just wanting a chrome cover...not sure what size to choose... Most applications are saying the 7.625 or 7.5 would be for V6 cars and the 8.5 would be for Z28's

The rearend "size" refers to the diameter of the ring gear.

93-02 V6 and V8 cars, with the exception of a few very, very rare SLP cars that had the 12 bolt, were 7.5/7.625 10 bolts. The 7.5/7.6 are interchangeable. The 8.2 and the 8.5 10 bolt were in 1st and 2nd gen Camaros. If GM hadn't been so concerned with cutting costs, they would have stuck the corporate GM 8.5 in the V8s. It's a lot stronger rear than the 7.5.
