Default Diff help, 01 SS

the gears in my rear diff are all smoked so I took it to the shop where they said they would put in a whole rear differential to fix the issue. I'd rather just replace the gears and essential components (poor college student). I cant find any replacement parts, but I found some gear sets for 01 corvettes online...althought I doubt they will match.

Any advice on how to get just the essential parts? Thanks

He's a poor college student because he has to pay for the gas in the ss. Or he was rich then went to college.

Look for a used rear end. Itll be cheaper in the long run. Gear jobs are tedious and can cost upto $1000 after gears and labour.

Oh and gear sizes you'd be looking for are 10 bolt 7.5/7.625

Your car uses a torsen type differential, which is totally different from the old clutch type limited slips. If the ring & pinion got crunched, there is a good chance the broken pieces got into the torsen unit and messed it up. Fixing these differentials is very complicated, and the factory recommends a total replacement. As 3800camaro suggested, try to find a used rear axle and save a lot of time & money.

I am a poor college student with an '02 z28. But I'm a good example of being poor cuz of my car I pay for the whole deal. So I know what your going through, I also agree used is the way to go, search craigslist, junk yards, ebay, anywhere and everywhere. Just don't let the shop convince you must buy a new one through them.
