Hey guys.
I have a 1995 Camaro 3.4L v6.

The car is running decent. It had a oil leak, I changed the oil sending unit and its gone now.

Everyday I drive like 4 miles round trip to work. Anyways, the check engine light won't show up. But when i take it to like 40-45 miles, light comes on. So I turn the car off. And then start it up right away, check engine light is still there. But when I turn it off and let it cool down about maybe 10-15 minutes, the check engine light is gone.

Anyways i took to my mechanic. We both have a diagnostic tool whatever. His got a expensive one, and he tried to connect it but didn't. I tried mine, but its not linking.

Like i said the car is running great except for that check engine light. And i can't figure out what it is...

Any suggestions?

i assume your using an obdII code reader but your car isnt obdII its obd1 with an obdII port you can use an obd1 reader with some jumper wires

1995 was the oddball year for the F-Body. OBDI computer, but an OBDII connector. If you just plug a straight OBDII scanner on to it, the scanner won't connect.

You need to either find a special cable for the OBDI/OBDII hybrid, or do what Basic suggested.

 

its not just the fbody my 95 blazer had obd1 with obdII port along with my 95 ford tbird

 

I was not aware that it was something that affected other makes than GM.

Good to know that several manufacturers did the freaky stuff for '95. All my vehicles are either strictly OBDI or OBDII so I just have to select the proper cable for my scanner.

 

ya 95 was a bad year for car computers... now im not sure about anything else

 

GM used to do a lot of stupid things to irritate customers, and this was one of their best brainstorms. No wonder they went bankrupt.
There is also the possibility that your mechanic used the proper set up, but the diagnostic connector had no power going to it. May want to look at the cig lighter fuse.

I've told that if I stick paper clips in that A and B, and then try doing the 3 times check engine flashing thing, it might work?

 

No you can't flash codes in the fbodies only way to get the codes read is either find a shop that will scan it (which won't be free) or buy the scanner and have it forever

 

try scanning under a different year. try 94 and see what happens. it may be an early year production car that has a 94 computer.
