Cruise control/turn signal lever replacement?

Hey all. My cruise control went out and I've already checked the fuse and the brake lights. I'm pretty sure it's the lever because it's been somewhat finicky for a while now when setting cruise control. Do you guys know if there's an easy way to do this and/or what I need to take it apart? I've linked below the piece I need to replace and it looks simple enough but I can't figure out how to get that short connecting wire out. Do I have to remove the steering wheel or is there a better way?

So I figured it out for my car. There's a little plastic cover on the side of the column that just pops off and the little plug is right there! I'm going to order me a new one of these and hopefully get my cruise control back!

You can download a copy of the GM service manual here if you don't have one. It contains troubleshooting charts and other useful information for problems like what you're working on.

Okay so mu cruise still isn't working :( I've checked the fuse, third break light, and replaced the cruise stalk switch. Where else would you guys suggest looking first? I checked out that manual but not really sure where to go from here.
Edit: I guess maybe the cruise control module?

Before you go and start throwing parts at your problem, I would suggest verifying that all the switches providing an input voltage to the cruise control module are working correctly. First thing to keep in mind is there are two different switches that are operated by the brake pedal and both of these switches provide an separate input voltage to the module. I've attached pages from the service manual that will show the location of these switches and detail the procedure for testing the system. I would suggest using chart #1 to do this.

Thanks. I didn't intend to throw more parts, I just thought for sure it was the stalk because I've had issues with it in the past where I'd have to wiggle the on or set button a few times before it would set. I didn't know about the brake pedal switches. Thanks again for the info.
