Will a good programer tune your car properly if u put in headers and a new exhaust or do u actually have to have it tuned at a shop?

To get the most, I would have a shop dyno tune it.

What year is your car? Only reason, I'm not a big fan of tuners anymore, is not much adjustability. I can change anything I want on my car and any other '97 3.8, and still can do two more cars, with my HPTuners.

I'm not sure how much a tuner would run you, but the HPTuners is approx $500. It gives you 8 credits. 2 credits per car, or you can spend 4 credits, and be able to tune ALL Camaros that are that year and engine. In your case you would be able to tune any '02 5.7 as many times as you wanted, and will be able to do whatever you'd like the the computer.

A handheld tuner is a $300 paperweight, they're good for adjusting the speedo if you get new wheels/tires on the rear end or re-gear it, and they're good for removing speed limiters, that's about it. As people have already stated, a full dyno tune at a good shop is best, but you can also go with a mail-order tune such as PCMforLess. In my opinion, tuning is best left up to the guys who do it every day, that's the way you'll get the best results.

There's around here that does it for $125/hr I believe. Just depends on where you go.
