So, I was browsing around the forums and noticed a thread in the v6 section about cold weather. Living in michigan,I am no stranger to cold. So I am wondering how your cars behaviour changes in the cold?

For me ('93 z28 149K), The biggest changes I have seen have been in the idle, the noises, and the ride itself.

Story time!
My brother goes to college at U of M, and came home a few weeks ago. When he is home we like to go out driving late at night, because you travel about ten minutes and you are either on long, flat country roads, or backwood forest roads (Both are fun driving areas. ). Anyway, at about midnight we head outside, and it is the coldest night of the year so far. I think the weather channel said 2 degrees or something. So, I go to start the Z and it doesn't give me any problems! I thought that was awesome. But instead of idling at 600-800 rpms, it idled at about 1300. Not that bad if you ask me. So we start heading out, and we decide to head to the perfect road. (will describe later.) By the time we reach the road, I have noticed two things. 1.)The car doesn't squeek at all. I know this sounds odd, because you would expect it to squeek more in the cold, but it didn't. It was silent. 2.)The ride was rougher, but the handling was smoother. The second part confused me a bit. It stayed like that the whole time too.

Anyway, I know that was a bit of a lot, so I hope no one gets turned off by this thread. [&:]

 

I have problems with traction, not just because of snow, ice and rain but from the cold tires and road (it kind of annoys me because I can't get on it hard without burning up some rubber). My idle is still usually around 850 RPM.

 

Yeah, traction was a bit tough. From a total stop it wasn't hard at all to get the wheels spinning. And when it happened, there was no correcting, you had to let off the gas. Oh well. lol
