Clutch anticipate switch purpose?

I have a 1998 3800 v6 5-speed. One day I noticed clutch anticipate switch dangling from behind the knee holster. Turns out the bracket for the switch broke and it fell off.

Now my question is what does the clutch anticipate switch do? Will it affect my shifts in any way? I'm not sure when it broke off or if it's been like that, but I haven't noticed any major changes.

found this

The clutch anticipate switch input allows the PCM to adjust the idle when the manual transmission clutch is being disengaged. The PCM monitors the Clutch Anticipate Switch input; if a low voltage is monitored, the PCM considers the Clutch Anticipate Switch closed to ground (clutch engaged).

Doesn't that switch also disengage the cruise control? Not reefering to the neutral safety switch.

Thanks guys. Yeah I believe that's also the switch that disengages the cruise control.

Why does the PCM need to know what the clutch is doing? I read from another forum: "It lets the PCM know when your about to shift so it can flare the engine up a little between shifts. It also tells the PCM to shut off cruise control when you touch the clutch pedal." Flare up even for up shifts? That doesn't make much sense, does it?

So is it required? I've noticed that it's hard to shift quickly at high RPM from first to second because my RPMs don't drop fast enough, unless I jam it into the second gear gate and use the clutch to slow the engine down faster, which is probably not a good thing for synchronous and clutches. But that may be normal...
