Question Checked a 95 v6 camaro on craigslist, has some issues, should I buy?

A car for this cheap has to have issues, but anyways, a dealer has a 95 camaro v6 on craigslist for $850, it has 172k miles. The car is beat up a bit on the driver side, dent in the hood, little cosmetic issues. The engine seems to have good power and the trans shifts smoothly, cruise control and AC work, t-tops are good, blinkers didn't work but the dealer told me he'd fix that next time I came.

But here's the issues, when I first turned the car on, had a lil less than a quarter tank of gas, it took about 4 cranks to startup, low oil pressure light comes on(yes I checked the oil and it is low,the dealer said it was about 1 quart low), but the gauge reads exactly in the middle of 45-90(60ish?). After running the car for about 20 mins, there was no leaking oil, just ac condensation, and the car only took about 2 cranks, or 1 long crank to startup, and the low oil pressure light stopped staying on. Also, when the engine is revved high, a slight sputtering sound comes from the exhaust, but it is aftermarket so I couldn't tell if it was bad exhaust or what.

Should I be concerned about this? Is it the alternator? bad fuel pump? or something worse? I realize a car for only $850 was not going to be perfect but its cosmetically in bad enough condition that the dealer would have trouble moving it, with low ballers and such on craigslist.

Only reason I didn't buy it is because in florida the tag and plate alone are about $300 bucks, so in the end TTL fees are about $400. In the end I pay about $1300 for the car total. I just moved and won't have a job or money to fix whatever is wrong for at least a month.

Should I buy it or skip it?

Pass, sounds like a weak fuel pump. If you can't do it yourself its an easy 500$+ job. The pump alone is like 200$ I'd also try to avoid the 3.4 get something newer than 96 with the 3.8.

Alright thanks, and I agree, the 3.8L v6's I've owned, feel much better than the 3.4.

it's on a dealer's lost for $850????

what do you think they paid for it in trade?

$850 vehicles are project vehicles and honestly, I don't view sixers as projects because you won't get the money back.

It's tough needing reliable transportation but not having the funds to get reliable transportation. I recall having to decide to make my tuition payment (it was done that way where I went) or fixing my car. I bummed rides for a couple weeks
