Default Changing head gaskets on 3.4, got stuck

Okay, so about 4 months ago I bought a 95 3.4L for my first vehicle. Maybe not the best decision but I love Camaros and it was affordable. Anyway. When I first started driving it, it ran pretty smoothly but didn't seem like it was getting as much power as it should. It would struggle getting up steep hills and wouldn't quite get up to speed when I needed it to. Then it started running hot and producing white smoke from the tail pipe, and some water was missing but not leaking anywhere. I foolishly decided to keep driving it (since it was my only mode of transportation) until I was 50 miles from home on the interstate when it began chugging and sputtering and just wouldn't go anymore. I was told it was probably caused by a bad head gasket so we started tearing into the engine to try and change it out. I got the fuel rail and intake plenum off and started on the valve covers. And they're stuck. Think they may have used sealer on them or something. How do I get them off without trashing the covers? And I'm probably going to get stuck on the intake next. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Take a rubber mallet and give the covers I nice whack on the side. You don't have to go extremely hard, but hard enough it'll break the seal.
