Default Cats and emissions

Ok so my camaro lacks cats.. i dunno how many 4th gens have.. ive heard they have one but that doesnt sound right. Anyway.. I need to pass emissions obviously.. and incase for some crazy reason my cattless camaro fails emissions.. would there be away i could cut out a section for the cat and clamp one in so i dont have to weld it in making it possible for me to take it back off and replacing it with the pipe? Or does the cat make that big of a difference in sound.. kuz i love the way it sounds right now and i dont want to spend moneyon something that wouldcause me tolose that sound.

There is always a way. People put test pipes in place of cats all the time. You just have to figure out how many you are supposed to have. My 3.4 only had one. The other option is to have it fitted in like it is supposed to be and then hollow it out (punch it through). They when put back together no one would notice.

yes the cat does restict the sound some. You could cut a peice out and put the cat in there and clamp it, but make shure you take your time and think about what your doin. I took mine off and i ended up gettin it welded back in because i didn't think about it. You will have to go to an auto parts store to get pipe to put back in there. because you cant clamp two pipes together that are butted toghether. I don't think. There might be a clamp you can get. I don't know.

Also most shops will not cut your cat out for you. But they can fix the open pipe how you want it.

My car passed catless.Barely. They allow the car to be retested, so just do a thorough tune up and run high octane fuel, and give it a shot.

Replace the fuel filter, its very simple. Check out the condition of your ignition equipment. Check out your o2 sensors, they are extremely important to A/F and emissions. What year is your Z?

Pre-1996 cars have single cats. All of the OBDII cars have dual cats.
